Schrade extreme survival knife complete guide – read this word to word before you even consider buying one

The first thing to understand before you get into this guide on the best Schrade knives is that it took 2-3 weeks to compile all the necessary data to give a final quality rating and choose our winners.

I am not saying this to brag, but to give you the feeling of how comprehensive and reliable these reviews are. Moving on…

Whether you’re a hardcore survivalist or an enthusiast just starting out with some outdoor surviving dabbling, survival knife is a tool like no other. It can swing your outdoors experience both ways. If it’s good, you’ll have all that you can possibly need when you need it. If it’s poor quality, on the other hand, you’re into for rough ride outside.

So, if you’re not quite sure which way to go, let me give you a hand. Just stick around, and I’ll do all the work for you. That’s what this guide is all about.

The one I noticed over the years that’s not so great about these knives is that they often go out of stock. I am not sure what’s that all about, you would think that such a reputable company would know to better adjust to market demands.

But before we go any further, let me get right to the results of the ratings research and then we’ll explain how and why the products got their place in top 4 knives.

Now let us get into why should you trust the ratings and the reviews of these Schrade knives.

Who am I?

The great outdoors is where I feel right at home. I’m an avid hunter, camper, and survivalist all in one. I have years of experience under my belt, and I know a high-quality survival knife when I see it.

I’ve also been writing articles and have been blogging about it for the better part of my life, always aiming to share what I know with fellow adventurers. I’ve written tons of material during that period, and I know all there is about the industry, manufacturers, and products in general. I know all the differences between a product that’ll be your trusty sidekick in every situation imaginable, and one that will be nothing more than a big waste of your time and hard earned cash.

So, if you’re after a full comprehensive guide on Shrade extreme survival knives, which is both unbiased and professional, you’ve come to the right place. I invite you to continue reading, and I will not disappoint.

How do I review the Schrade knives?

When it comes to the actual the best knives and multitools, I have a special treat for you.

Over the years, I’ve developed my own special method of grading and ranking the products of a certain category. And I implemented that method in all of my guides.

What am I exactly talking about?

Well, it’s all about customer feedback for me. I’ve read an absurd amount of user reviews concerning Shrade extreme survival knives, and filtered it all through my personal experience and knowledge. I graded every product on several different points and made a list of ones with the highest average grade. That’s how we got a little something I like to call our list of winners. It’s the final product of user reviews combined with my own knowledge gathered over the years of my adventuring outdoors. It’s the best possible way in my humble opinion. After we announce the best of the best, we’ll get to know a bit more about them through subsequent digest reviews.

For the sake of keeping you updated with the current state of the market, I redo all of my lists every two months. So, if something better pops up in the meantime, you’re always the first to know about it.

If you like the way I work we can move on from these introductory parts, and start doing some actual work.

So, what’s the final list of winners in the best Schrade knives “battle”?

All those hours of reading, thinking, comparing and researching basically come down to this one moment when I can proudly present the list of extreme survival knives I can stand behind 100%.

Now that the jig is up, we’ll go a step further and get to know every extreme survival knife one by one.

What is the structure and the factors of the digest reviews?

Here’s what it’s all about:

  • The review starts with giving us some basic product specs provided by the manufacturer
  • Then we’ll scrutinize every single fact provided (and more) by cross-referencing it with all those good and bad things the users had to say about the knife
  • Finally, you’ll hear it from me. I’ll tell you what, in my own opinion brought that particular knife to the winners list and why do I think it’s a good idea to have one as an adventuring companion

We got the knowledge down, time for some specifics.

Shrade SCHF2 Extreme Survival Knife

Schrade SCHF2 Extreme Survival Steel Special Forces Fixed Blade Knife with Nylon SheathLet’s see what we talked about in action.

As we said, first we’ll give the manufacturer an opportunity to say a few words about its survival knife:

  • 5.2 inch handle, 7.5 inch blade
  • Handle and the blade are made of SAE high carbon 1070 steel
  • Handle multi tool screwdriver included
  • Comes with ballistic nylon sheath
  • Weighs 17.8 ounces

Ok, we got all that we needed to know in a pretty short and concise introduction to this product. Now let’s see how it holds up when faced with the harsh judgment of the customers.

PROs:

Here we deal with the good things users had to share about this knife:

  • Truly amazing knife! It’s the same quality as my custom Chris Reeves’, only without costing the better part of a thousand dollars. I like how the knife is just one solid piece of metal, so you won’t find those all too well-known weak spots on the place where the handle meets the blade. It’s outright a soft spot, especially for the knives made featuring hollow handle, and this one is just refreshing in that department
  • I love the little screwdriver kit tucked inside the hollow handle. It’s a very useful piece of equipment, and it came in handy more times than I can count. If you don’t feel the need for a screwdriver while in a survival situation, you can always replace it with some survival kit, straight out of Rambo movies as my cousin did. All in all, great knife and a true helper in the great outdoors
  • The quality of the blade is out of this world. It’s super sharp, and it has a nice serrated part near the handle. It’s distal tapered, and well, plus the balance is surprisingly good for a non-combat knife
  • I’ve read a bunch of positive reviews for this Shrade extreme survival knife, and I also watched it tested on YouTube. It was one success after the other. Once I actually got it and started using it, I saw that it was all true. It’s an awesome addition to my survival gear, and simply a great buy
  • It’s simply mind-boggling that you can get this high-quality survival knife for that kind of money

CONs:

There’s two sides to every story, let’s check the not so pleasant one:

  • The knife is more than satisfying. It’s simply a great piece. The problem I have is with the sheath that comes with it. I don’t think it really matches the quality of the knife. It’s good, don’t get me wrong, but I expected more, given how awesome the knife is
  • The one I got had a bended blade above the knife’s hilt. I returned it immediately, and now I’m waiting for a replacement to get here. The customer service guys were more than helpful and forthcoming though

Well, I think it’s pretty clear why this extreme survival knife got on my list. It’s a great product and most importantly, a single piece of solid metal. It makes it way sturdier than your average two-piece knife. Plus, the multi tool inside the handle is a pretty nice touch. Go for it without any doubt.

Shrade SCHF1 Extreme Survival Knife

Schrade SCHF1 Extreme Survival Special Forces Fixed Blade KnifeAnd again, time to see what the company has to tell us about their product:

  • 5.2 inch handle, 7.5 inch blade
  • Handle and the blade are made of SAE high carbon 1070 steel
  • Handle multi tool screwdriver included
  • Comes with ballistic nylon sheath
  • Weighs 17.8 ounces

Pretty much the same thing as the first one, which can only be a good thing.

PROs:

Let’s dabble into the good sides a bit:

  • This knife is the first thing I packed when I went to Iraq. Those “you never know” situation come up more often than you might expect, and this piece was my trusted friend in all of them. The blade is really well crafted, and it held up perfectly through all the abuse I put it through. I often used it as a skinning knife, and it slices through the toughest of hides without any problems. The blade is very sharp and doesn’t require any sharpening for a long time
  • The quality-price ratio is through the roof. How can something this good be so cheap is beyond me. And just imagine my pleasant surprise when I saw that the handle is hollow with a screwdriver kit inside of it. It very high-quality set, and it handles much better than your usual plastic screwdriver, especially if your palms tend to sweat a lot like mine
  • It’s a great piece for fishermen, soldiers, campers, survivalists, and for looking scary overall since this thing is about the size of one’s forearm
  • I was surprised at the sheer number of positive reviews I found online. The negative ones almost always regard its size. The trick is knowing what you want and what you’re buying. I wanted a full-size utility/combat knife, and that’s exactly what I got. It’s never meant to be inconspicuous, light or small. Having that in mind, it’s a great extreme survival knife, and I fully recommend it
  • This is the best Shrade extreme survival knife I could possibly get. It’s been through hell and back with me, and it’s still going strong. I batoned pretty seasoned hardwood with it, struck some sparks from my Ferro rod, punched through the roof of a car, pried open the door, dug out numerous landscape spikes, and it just keeps on going. It’s an amazing blade, and a great helper whatever I’m doing. Plus, it’s budget-friendly beyond measure

CONs:

Part 2 of the story:

  • It’s just huge. I didn’t expect it to be this big. I can’t carry this knife around for using it day to day, it’s just too conspicuous. Other than its size, this piece is pretty amazing

Lots of pros, and literally no cons if you know what you’re getting yourself into. This Shrade extreme survival knife is a true gem, and it won’t disappoint no matter what you put it through.

Shrade SCHF9 Extreme Survival Knife

Schrade SCHF9 Extreme Survival KnifeLet’s check out the manufacturer’s specification again:

  • 5.6 inch handle, 6.4 inch blade
  • The blade is made of high carbon 1095 steel
  • Kraton handle
  • Comes with ballistic nylon sheath
  • Weighs 15.9 ounces

Once more, short, straightforward, and effective. Just the way we like it.

PROs:

Let’s see some of the pleasant experiences:

  • I got mine on Amazon, and I had quite a discount too. It’s just SICK and CRAZY getting a 1095 steel knife for this kind of money. Let’s cut the story short, if you’re into beefy, tough, heavy-duty workhorse of an extreme knife, you’ve come to the right place. Incredible product at an amazing price!
  • It was love at first sight. The blade is amazing, and the handle is quite sturdy and feels great in hand. Plus, the handle is pretty large, so the number of different grips is simply limited by one’s imagination and knowledge. Contoured shape makes the hand feel full, and the handle is kept in place by the flared end. My sincere recommendation
  • It came pretty sharp, but I like my knives razor-sharp. It sharpens very well, and it holds an edge quite nicely
  • I found out that this knife is great at splitting wood among other uses. I use it almost as an axe, and it just goes strong as always. Great blade, perfect heft, affordable price. What more can a guy ask for?
  • It’s a heavy-duty knife made for survival. It will start you fire, baton, clean game, and much more. It’s well made, hold a very good edge and the “in the field” use is more than comfortable

CONs:

And some of the unpleasant ones:

  • It’s a bit smaller than it looked on the pictures
  • The handle is a bit too wide for my taste, but a great knife overall

This is the most popular survival knife made by Shrade, and it would probably come first if this list had any particular order of appearance. It’s a real tank among knives and a great choice for the great outdoors.

Shrade Extreme Survival Knife 12 1/4 inch

Schrade Extream Survival Knife 12You know the drill by now, first we’ll hear it from the manufacturer:

  • Survival sheath included
  • Multi-functional survival blade
  • Overall length is 12 1/4“
  • Lifetime limited warranty

Not much said here, I guess we’ll have to consult our fellow customers in order to discover the full story behind this survival knife,

PROs:

It’s a good place to start. Let’s check out the good sides first:

  • It’s a great blade for that price, very solid and durable. I especially like the nail puller that’s conveniently built into the knife’s pummel
  • It’s a very high-quality item and at a great price. Having a couple of Shrade extreme survival knives, I grew accustomed to getting the top of the line products that excel in budget friendliness. The knife itself feels pretty heavy and with a nice thick blade. Overall it looks like it could survive a one-on-one confrontation with a bulldozer, and I’m looking forward to using it in the field
  • This knife compares pretty well with Gerber Mark II that I own. The thing is, this one costs about half as much. I especially like the survival sheath that has some pretty useful pockets to it. You can stash pretty much all of the survival essentials in them and still be left with some space to spare
  • I’m a knife collector, and I have a well-sized collection going from cheap models to some premium and absurdly expensive. The more costly ones are certainly good at what they do, but this Shrade piece is the one I always carry on my belt once I go camping or just decide to take a long stroll through the woods. The size is perfect, and the blade is pretty sharp. It’s solid enough for chopping, yet it has that balanced feel to it. Blade’s rear features a wire cutter, and there’s also a flat head pommel that’s great for driving nails. Overall I can’t glorify this little guy enough. It’s an amazing piece and better than much more expensive survival knives. I recommend it to everyone

CONs:

One last time:

  • The only complaint I have is the size of the handle. I have pretty small hands and the handle feels titanic

Last but not least on our list of winners certainly knows why it’s here. Besides the obvious quality, the sheer versatility of this knife is mind boggling. If you get it, you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about.

Final thoughts
